We had been planning our 2022 vacation for over six months and when the day finally arrived for us to head to Seattle we were so excited!

We flew in the night before boarding the beautiful Royal Caribbean's Quantum of the Seas to sail to Alaska! After arriving in Seattle we spent the night at the Radisson Sea-Tac which had recently been remodeled and was extremely quiet for being just walking distance from the airport.
The next morning we arranged for the Seattle Express to pick us up from the hotel and take us to Pier 91/Smith Cove for our 11:00 am check-in.
The cruise terminal check in was an easy process as we already had our ArriveCAN form, negative Covid tests results, sea pass, and luggage tags printed and ready to go.

By noon we were on board and having lunch in the ship's Wind Jammer Buffet. After lunch we did our muster drill check-in and explored the ship.
Our first stop was to the North Star (pod) which takes you above the ship to enjoy 360 degree views of Smith Cove and the Quantum of the Seas. From the North Star we enjoyed a beer which we carried around with us as we explored each deck on the ship.

Around 1:00 pm we were able to get to our room and found our luggage waiting for us at our door. Our room was spacious, very clean, and we had an amazing balcony with comfortable lounge chairs! Our room attendant, Lalit, was on point, checking on our needs and keeping our room tidy. We LOVED the nightly turn down service and we were always excited to see which towel animal Lalit would leave for us on our bed!
Hiding ducks on cruise ships is a real thing! Found one to re-hide outside of the Wonderland Restaurant on board. |
As scheduled the ship set sail at 4:00 pm and we sailed through the Puget Sound and into the Salish Sea before entering the Pacific Ocean. For our embarkation night dinner we dined in the main dining room which offered views of the Salish Sea until it became too dark. Exhausted from the start of our big adventure we headed off to bed and slept well to the rocking of the ship.
When we awoke the next morning the ship was in the middle of a rain storm off the Pacific coast. Because the ship was really rocking and the view from the balcony was foggy we stayed sea sick most of the second day (sailing day). We took advantage the drowsiness caused by Dramamine and enjoyed the best naps we've had in a while.
When we woke up the third day the boat was in the inside passage of Alaska and the waters were calm. The ship would dock next at Icy Strait Point!
