Waldport, Oregon and the Alsea Interpretive Center

Continuing south along the Oregon Coast, our next stop was at Waldport, Oregon, to see the Alsea Bridge and tour the Alsea Bay Historic Interpretive Center.

Waldport is especially proud of the Alsea Bay Bridge, completed in August 1991. Adjacent to the bridge is the Visitor Center, with displays and video material covering the history of the area, the building of this new bridge, and demolition of the old.

Alsea River/Bay

Fishing, clamming and crabbing are popular recreational activities in Waldport. If we had time we would have loved to visit the free crabbing dock open to the public on the Alsea River.

Before crossing the Alsea Bridge we stopped on the north side to view the mouth of the Alsea River and get photographs of the beautiful art-deco bridge.  

From this point we could see that the tide was out and lazy seals could be seen sunning themselves on the shores of the river.  We spotted two eagles calling from over our heads making this spot one of the most magical spots we visited on that day.
