Rockport, Texas

During May of 2015, we found ourselves in Corpus Christi, again, visiting our son.  While he was working we entertained ourselves by making several small trips to nearby towns such as Rockport.  Rockport is on State Highway 35 on Live Oak Peninsula between Copano and Aransas bays, thirty miles northeast of Corpus Christi. TK has found memories of this small, shrimping town as she spent many vacations with her family fishing off the docks that jet out into Copano Bay.  Sadly, this excursion involved NO fishing, just sight seeing and photography!

Welcome to Rockport, Texas

Just a 20 minutes drive north of Rockport lies Goose Island State Park.   Goose Island offers camping, fishing and birding along St. Charles and Aransas bays, north of Corpus Christi.   Occasionally, you will see alligators in the park but its most famous residents are endangered whooping cranes that spend winter across St. Charles Bay at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.   Along the edge of the park you'll find the Big Tree, which has been standing sentinel on the coast for more than 1,000 years.  In 1969, it was named the State Champion Coastal Live Oak.
